reflections for the lost55. GophersUnfinished tasks lay before us. Tolmadrin again produced his Rod of Teleportation, explaining to us that there were a limited number of charges to expend, and their general destinations were already set within them. Apparently, the ingredients necessary to save the Emperor were a little bit non-standard, not even Perelin with its Alchemists' quarter had all of them. The ingredients we were to gather:The first plan was for Whit, I, and Labrinnon to stalk to the bottom galley of the slow-moving riverboat Casino and Tavern, while the rest of our companions would "mingle" with the crowd, watching for an opportunity to provide a distraction. It was foiled when Whit crossed the first threshold, and alarms sounded deep within the boat. The capable bouncers bared their blades as Whit was outlined in Faery Fire. We were able to escape the alarms in time, but the boat on which the Vampire and his minions ran a tight gambling operation was too well guarded for another direct bout. Understandably, that plan was abandoned. Whit, Grayn, and Labrinnon all spearheaded the second plan. I am unsure of the events that actually occurred on the boat, and Rihana has related to me that Grayn kept on grinning and shooting glances at Whit as he described the pitched battle that ensnared them. Perhaps sometime after Whit's wedding day I can relax his tongue with some drink and he will tell the true tale. Perhaps not. Regardless, the Dirt from the Vampire's Coffin was retrieved at dusk and we had captured the first ingredient. The sea scrag battle was pitched, but ultimately in our favor. They had been terrorizing a local population, and armoring themselves against retribution by fleeing into the water. Maybe Tolmadrin's kind fulfillment of our requests for Water-Breathing, Water-Walking and Freedom of Movement scrolls allowed us to bring the battle to the scrags, rather than being forced to plot and plan to figure out how to remove them from there lair. Lobar was almost mortally wounded, but between Malakon's wicked sword tongue, Asherm's and Labrinnon's Lightning spells, the leaders were easily dispatched, once the toughs had been disposed of early on in the battle. Her heart beating still, we cut it from her mottled and leathery chest, and thrust it into my Harversack along with the Vampire Dirt. And then it was onto the Noble Salamanders.
