reflections for the lost49. Kalia and BorimanThe next two assassinations we had to complete both resided on the second level of the Manor house, thankfully several twists down from where we could still hear the chanting and thundering from the black tower. I write quickly of these events as I know Muldavious and his Arawn-infected kin are nearing the climax of their ritual of subversion. We split into two equal halves, one to face Kalia, and another to combat Boriman. Whit and I nodded to each other as our eyes met from our respective doorways and we each silently unlocked the portal into our prospective prey's chambers.I locked eyes with Malakon, whose cool gaze is a change from the nervous sweat that used to frame his face when I first began to fight alongside of him. He has increased in size and ferocity; it is too bad his manners outside of combat haven't improved as much. After our exchange, we nodded and I moved aside as the door was kicked in, and we fell upon Kalia like a swarm of Deva. The spell of True Strike guided by newly earned rapier deep into Kalia's flank as Malakon and Grayn hailed blows upon her. She breathed her last before she was able to target anyone with the spell she began casting. I could feel the else swim and swarm about her as it dispersed. Our companions did not have such an easy time as we did. Boriman appeared to have been expecting attack when the door burst down. There was a Fire Elemental in the middle of his large chamber, swirling around and radiating a heat that belonged in the deepest of pit-forges. I felt the wash of cold air even in the room combating Kalia, when the Cone of Cold wand discharged its stored spell. That neatly dispatched the Fire Elemental into its own home plane. I missed the few crucial moments of how the combat began, but as from Lobar's description of the battle, our second strike force was surprised at how large Boriman's chambers were. Those few crucial moments of vulnerability while Boriman was surprised at our sudden and frosty attack were lost taking up the ground separating him from his imminent doom. When I flew into the room, Lobar and the strike force had cornered and flanked him. By the time I briefly joined the fray, his end was at hand. We took a few moments to search through his room, looking for more surprises. None were at hand. I verbally ran through the sketchy plan with the key members as we heard the chanting and felt the magical energies begin to rise. It was not a good plan, but Ilâh willing, we will not all enter the Nightrealm into the Ever Paradise. I signed to each of my friends and companions a kiss of goodbye as I handed my wings to Bramblebeard. Labrinnon cast a spell of Flight on Sanantha. And we prepared ourselves for the darkness to come.
