reflections for the lost48. ExecutionsAfter disposing of Olimbar, it was to the first floor room of Xaxis that we brought to bear out forces. The ceremony was thundering and shaking from the floor above us, and even through the brick and rock we could hear the chanting cut towards us. Xaxis's door was trapped but Whit was able to unlock and bind away the other traps upon it. We flooded the small room in a rush, and Lobar, and Malakon and I all sank our blades and twisted Xaxis about twice before he fell from his wounds. His body was quickly beheaded and similarly disposed of while Whit and Thea quickly searched his room. His lavishly decorated suite was quickly turned through, and it was inside a thrice locked and trapped drawer that Whit and I discovered a damning and revealing missive.Addressed to Xaxis Abrantier from someone unknown named Gashwyth, the letter was marked from the city of Mellik. Something in my memory connected Mellik to something, but I cannot clearly recall at this time. It described as following, "a malady most serious, that can be bought and unleashed on one's enemies." This Gashwyth described the malady with terrible details as 'fatal in all cases.' Even Emperors are not proof. Surely you are reaping benefits from its use and you yourself have not even paid a Sword for it! And you know that, given the nature of that transaction, I am sure to be trustworthy. As sign of my good faith, I will describe for you a measure of its cure, so that you may make your decision knowing that I speak the truth. An alchemist of your knowledge will understand the agents I am putting forth, and know that I am being honest. If you still have doubts, speak with your associates. They can certainly put in a good word for me." He goes on to describe a portion of a very complex alchemical formula. Whit's eyes met mine and we shared our first knowing gaze. We quickly circulated the letter and the meaning to our friends and companions. This tied House Abrantier and this Gashwyth from Mellik in a plot for the Emperor's life. Toran, the King of Lyrenn, has gone to the Emperor's side to be with him in his sudden illness. We hold in our hands the tools and formulae to truly combat the poison that has sickened him. This information builds a duty heavier than any we already have to bear, to not embrace death this night, and dance our fight into morning where we can escape this land, to deliver this remedy to Tolmadrin.
