34. Children's Tales

"And then I went out to look for help like Feargus Treewalker, who was sent to find Lugh and bring the Light back to the world. I brought a bit of bread, a flask of water, a stick to walk with, and I couldn't get a lock of hair from anyone so I took a lock of the golden hair from my sister's doll. I was looking about for someone to come and help my family when I was taken by these four giants and their huge bear and they were going to eat me but then you came to save me so can you help my family?"

This was the tale spoken by Charles, the child whom Whit and I spirited away from the Ettins. While we quickly regained our strength through healing, he told me more of his tale. I recognized Lugh as being a local deity of the Light, but Mac Gwyr and this hero named Feargus Treewalker are new and strange to me. I will have to ask some of my companions, who grew up in this land, perhaps Malakon, more about these tales. Charles has placed a great burden afore us: he described two wagons of Roma who came to visit his small town of Caer-Gellyn. At first I wondered if these Roma were the ones who tricked us so before we went into the Fey mound. Knowing what I do now, I certainly hope they are not the same.

Most of the town showed up in force to watch their dance and performance, while Charles played his children's games in the woods. When he came back to the town, all his family and fellow townspeople had apparently been struck insane by the Roma. I fear that the infectious dance that we stopped long ago in Lyrenn was successfully and potently put to use by Cultists of Arawn. For Charles' sake, I desperately hope that we are not too late.
