reflections for the lost26. Useful giftsOn the way out to Lyrenn, Rihana presented me with a gift of her masterworked, silvered rapier. It is much lighter and swifter then my old iron practice rapier. I practiced with it a bit on the horseback ride back to Lyrenn, and I am very pleased with it. I was practicing the mental exercises as found in the Manual of Fate, as I have taken to calling it, when Anathea whispered in Kaeron to the rest of us that there was an ambush around us. I am glad that Anathea taught me a bit of Kaeron when we were still underground. While still in the simple mental state, the First State as the Manual called it, it was easy to spot one of the ambushers in the trees, longbow drawn, waiting to waylay us.I did not hesitate. I whispered to myself "an evening stroll" and I was silent as my wings clapped out and whisked me out of my saddle. With my rapier already drawn, I swooped around my attempted to ambush my ambusher. Putting the tree he was perched in between he and I, it was easy to come in close and sneak an attack on his flank. My carefully aimed blow went only a bit off target, but still wounded him well. Alial finished him with an arrow to his chest. A moment later Labrinnon cast a web spell into the mass of where they were hiding. Expecting a hardier foe, I was surprised to hear shouts of retreat. Lobar waded into the web and cut free the bandits, whom we quickly bound. Rihana charmed one of them and he readily answered our questions. There were indeed many bandits about, according to his tale, most of them down on their luck farmers without much idea of whom to rob and whom to flee from. But he confirmed the rumors the Innkeeper knew. The future I foretell will be soaked in blood for us. May Ilâh shelter us in his hand. Previous Entry Next Entry |
