reflections for the lost

24. Strange rewards

I sat back from the bubbling hot acid like blood that fizzled and spit in the sand surrounding our slain foe. I assisted some in removing tracks of hide to be fashioned into Dragon Scale and Hide Armor. I am sure that this will be wonderful armor once crafted by a master smith, but I am not sure that it will yield the magical properties that I believe they hope. But if it does, maybe there will be enough left over for me. One can only hope, right Fatima? I think that I am becoming too tired to continue any further thinking this night. When the Dragon died, I saw a strange ripple of something pass over all of us, like a tide of color, but only a few hues off of what was normal; I am not sure what this was, other then some great ripple in the Else. I hope to leave this place soon.

Upon waking the next morning, I have found the outside to be not without it's strangeness. I looked out upon the Real World, beyond the Otherworld, and found three skeletons- two being the size of halflings. And it was no longer winter. I tasted the air and it told me that it was far along into the summer. Far along. With no one around to question, I have only to wonder; How long have we been gone? What a strange reward for this journey. The taste of what the future seems to hold has already embittered my tongue.
