Shield of Tor (Template)

Requirements

To qualify to become the Shield of Tor, the Paladin must meet the following criteria: Minimum of 10 levels of Paladin
Worship of Tor
Have a currently living Paladin's Mount
Stats: Dex: 15 Wis: 16 Cha: 16
Ride: 10 ranks
Knowledge (Religion): 6 ranks
Handle Animal: 3 ranks
Diplomacy: 3 Ranks
Feats: Combat Reflexes, Improved Initiative, Mounted Combat, Shield Expertise
The current Shield of Tor, is not allowed to wear heavy armor.

Future/upkeep requirements
The paladin must put all remaining stat points into Dexterity.
2 of the feats taken after achieving this class must relate to mounted combat.
The paladin must always put a skill point per level into Ride.
The Paladin MUST equip herself and her mount with magical items on a one-for-one basis, to the best of her ability.

Restrictions
The Shield of Tor's effects are treated as if they were cast at the character level of the wielder. If the Shield is ever destroyed, the Paladin automatically loses 1 level of experience. Its essence can be reinfused into a Masterwork Shield. However, doing so costs an additional 5,000 xp.
If the Mount is slain, the Paladin loses 2 permanent points of Constitution, and may not call another mount for 3 months.

Special Abilities

1st - The Shield gains a +1 enhancement bonus, to a maximum of +5, and becomes animated as per the Shield Bearer spell. The Shield retains all previous powers. While so animated, the Paladin cannot make attacks with the Shield.
In addition, the Paladin gains the virtual feats 2 Weapon Fighting and Ambidexterity. These feats are only in effect while using the Shield.
In addition, the Shield will turn black upon "hearing" a lie. As a divine effect, the Shield cannot be deceived by mortal magical means. This ability can be used once per day.

2nd - The Mount gains the ability to shrink, along with the Paladin and her equipment, so that they are each 1 size category smaller. None of the normal penalties/benefits that would normally apply are in effect here. This lasts for 10 minutes per character level, and may be used 1nce per day per Shield level.

3rd - The Shield can make attacks while animated, as if the Paladin herself were wielding it. Normal penalties for 2 weapon fighting still apply. Note that the Paladin can wield a 2-handed weapon and still make off-hand attacks with the Shield. Paladin also gains Weapon Focus - Shield as a virtual Feat.

4th - Mount is permanently affected as if by Horseshoes of the Zephyr. This is a supernatural ability. Mount also gains an additional +2 HD, +1 Natural Armor bonus in the form of silvery scales, and a +1 intelligence bonus.

5th - Shield gains a +1 enhancement bonus, to a maximum of +5. Shield also deals an additional +2d6 of holy damage per attack, as a Holy weapon.

6th - Mount can "fly" per the Airwalk spell 1nce per day per 2 Shield levels. When this occurs, the mount is bathed in silver fire which leaves a streak of light trailing after it. Paladin may also add double her Dexterity (?) bonus to Ride checks when riding her chosen mount.

7th - The Shield may make 1 parry attempt per round as a free action, as if the Paladin were wielding the weapon. Also, 3 times per day, the Paladin may attempt to Dispel Magic at her Character level on a successful attack with the Shield. This intention must be declared before the attack roll is made, and if the attack misses the attempt is wasted.

8th - The Mount is permanently affected by the Airwalk spell, and appears to manifest transparent dragon wings when flying. Gains an additional +3 HD, a +2 Natural Armor bonus, (again in the form of silver scales), and gains a +1 to Strength, Constitution, and Intelligence.

9th - The Paladin gains Improved 2 Weapon Fighting as a virtual feat, and a +1 to her base attack bonus, when wielding the Sheild, whether in hand or animated.

10th - The Mount gains a breath weapon - a Cone of Fire, 60' long, that does 12d8 points of damage. 1/2 is fire damage, while, the other 1/2 is Holy damage. DC on the Reflex save is 26 for 1/2. This ability may be used 3 times per day. The Mount's movement is also doubled. Finally, the mount gains damage reduction 15/+1.
The Shield gains an additional +1 Enhancement bonus, to a maximum of +5. It also gains the properties of Disruption and Ghost Touch.
