Torm bar Dartom Crownsilver19th level Paladin of Torm Torm was the second of four children (three boys and one girl) born to Lord Dartorm and Lady Annabel Crownsilver. Lord Dartorm was a Paladin of Torm (the god), as every generation before him hand been, and he was a loyal servant to the King of Cormyr, Azoun IV (a distant cousin). Torm elder brother wanted nothing more than to follow in his father's footsteps. Torm himself wanted nothing to do with being a Paladin. He was a rebellious youth, always getting in trouble and causing problems. One evening, however, Torm's older brother got into an argument with their father. He stormed out of the house and disappeared into the evening. He did not return that night, nor the next morning. He never returned again. It was then that Dartorm took Torm aside and explained that as much as his brother had wanted to be a Paladin, it was preordained that Torm would take up the mantle. A great destiny awaited Torm, and it was very important that he began to take life more serious. He would give up his youthful ways, study hard at his fathers arm, and become a Paladin of Torm. It was in his blood and it was in his name. And so Torm studied and trained and became a man his father could be proud of. And when Lord Dartorm perished in battle, fighting along-side King Azoun IV, Torm took up his father's mantle. He gathered his faith and his strength and went out into the world to fight evil wherever he could find it. What followed is the well-known stuff of legend and song. Since the Companions retired from the adventuring life, Torm has taken up residence in Saerloon (in Sembia), though he can still be found in Suzail, Myth Drannor, Broken Spire Keep, Waterdeep, and a hidden keep in the north. Torm protects the town of Saerloon from thieves and pirates and other forms of nastiness. In fact, on Midsummer, Torm's birthday, he makes a special gift to the city of allowing no crime to take place from dusk to dusk. Torm is always accompanied by Gwendolyn (Gwenathyltha in Draconic), a silver dragon that was once his mount. Torm released her from service and they married -- though they do not have any children. Gwendolyn usually takes the form of a beautiful human women, with long, silver hair. She wears either Bracers of Armor or magical Full-Plate armor, and is normally carrying a Staff of Wizardry (though sometimes she is seen wielding a massive two-handed sword). She also wears a Cloak of Scintillating Colors. Torm's Blue Dragonscale armor is widely recognized, and is set off by a dark red cloak (with a white symbol of Torm upon the back). It is rumored and whispered that while he wears the amour, attacks of any kind cannot affect him and that he moves with blinding speed at times. Torm wears no helm. Torm's shield bears a combined heraldic device of the holy symbol of Torm, the Crownsilver family symbol, and a silver dragon defeating a white dragon. His shield is very recognizable, and it is commonly known that is protects him from dragon breath and from spells. Torm has also taken to carrying a short spear, behind his shield, though he never seems to use the spear itself as a weapon. Torm's sword is a "Hand and a Half" sword that always gives off a 10' circle of brilliant, but soft light. It is quite well known that it is a Holy Sword, and it is told (rumored) that it can slay dragons with single blows. Torm wears Gauntlets of Ogre Power, which are plain to see.
Torm's Seven League Boots are stuff of legends. They are dark burgundy and
black (Greater Ta'nari skin and Paragon Shadow Dragon Skin), heavy riding
boots. They do not get dirty or dusty, and in fact crackle with static
energy. Very little is actually known about the boots. People in the
realms gossip that they allow Torm to fly, that they protect him from
damage, that they allow him to teleport anywhere, that they cause him to
become a giant, and so on. What is widely known is that on one occasion a
thief was able to steal Torm's boots away from him (many agree that Torm
let
him take the boots), and upon putting the boots on, the thief found them
to
be common leather. And when he removed them to toss them away, they
disappeared. Torm, of course, was seen to be wearing them again the very
next day.
