Barbarians of Angaria

There are many groups of barbarians in the northern borders of Kar-Thone, the northern plains and the desert of Târiq.

The Roma

The Roma are a gypsy-like people who are the source of the Drabardi--powerful witches.

Races

Following is a brief synopsis of the various races of Talanu. In general, they are typical and follow the description provided for them in the Player’s Handbook.

Kaeron

The Kaeron, the Faery, the Shining Ones, the Fathers of Modern Wizardry, the Formori, the Demons of the North - the mere mention of these people evokes strong emotions within the hearts of all races. Theirs is the classic tale of paradise lost. Some would say that their story ended in damnation. Others are not so sure.

Humans

Humans in Talanu are by far the most common of all the races. They are everywhere, even in the most inhospitable of locales. They are also the dominant race of Talanu, and have concentrated among themselves the majority of military and magical might.

Humans come in a variety of flavors, more than any other race, but none of them particularly seem to care. Point of origin is more often at issue than skin color.

Saedhe

Also known as Fair Elves, these were the Fair Folk that stood by the humans against the Kaeron during the Great War. They move freely amongst humans, and most half-elves are of Saedhe blood. Their Elvenhome is in Grengon, in the tree city of Torioth on its eastern border.

Oi'waen

Also known as the wood elves, these reclusive elves refused to journey with Daran Kar-Thone and his people, including their brethren the Saedhe, when they fled south to look for a new home. They disappeared into the great forests of the north, preferring to trust themselves to their woodcraft than to the leadership of a non-elf. No outsider is certain of the location of their Elvenhome, though it is assumed to be deep within the massive central forest of Trall-Goth.

To this day they are very distrustful of outsiders. Compared to other elves, they are simple and rustic, and are often considered to be barbarians themselves.

Rhiallon

The high elves betrayed their brethren and stood with the Faery when the time came to fight. Once the Kaeron were defeated, most of them were slaughtered or banished along with their masters. It is still possible, however, to find small communities of High Elves living in Trall-Goth. Their attitude toward outsiders is variable. Some Rhiallon welcome them, feeling a duty of restitution to the other races for their ancient betrayal. Others kill outsiders, especially Saedhe, on sight, harboring bitterness with a tenacity that only elves can muster.

There is no High Elvenhome.

Drow

When the Kaeron were banished by Daran Kar-Thone, he sent them underground. Colanx laid upon them a mighty curse called the Blight, so that they would fear the sight of the sun and never again bother the surface dwellers. Over time, the Faery changed in appearance, outwardly exhibiting the darkness that was within their hearts all along. Eventually, they became the Drow, or Dark Elves.

Kharolan (Dwarf)

The dwarves of Talanu have always been considered the human’s closest friends and allies. Kar-Thone will never forget the service that the dwarves did for them, coming out of hiding in the Underground to aid and shelter them in their fight for freedom. They are also the stewards of the Underdark, and are the first line of defense against the banished Drow.

Their ancestral home is still in the Korac Mountains, but they have expanded, and dwarves may be found almost anywhere within the Adonai Mountains and surrounding hills.

Halflings

The halfling race suffered more than any at the hands of their Kaeron captors. They have now integrated themselves well into urban human life, and can be seen in most major cities, as well in the smaller villages that dot the countryside.

The halflings have no ancestral home.

Gnomes

The gnomes are the one race whose introduction into the world is a topic of hot debate. They themselves claim that they were created by Garl Glittergold, who wisely kept them hidden until after the unpleasantness of the Faery Wars. Others claim that they were the result of magical experiments carried out by the Kaeron. Regardless, they did not appear on the scene until after the Faery Wars, when the humans found them living in the hills and mountains of their new land.

Their ancestral home is Abanadora, in the Adonai Mountains of Caerbreddyn.

Goblinoid Races

Orcs, ogres, goblins, kobolds; all of these abominations WERE the creation of the Kaeron, twisting human, elven and halfling blood into new and vicious forms. They are everywhere, and spread their evil like a plague across the face of the continent.
