The Calendar

The calendar of the Empire of Kar-Thone, which is the one most commonly used by adventurers, is a familiar one to most outworlders. A year lasts 365 days. The days are divided up into weeks of seven days each, which are loosely grouped into twelve months, which last 30 days each. There are five holy days that fall outside this regular reckoning. Four of these days are considered to fall upon a regular day of the week, but outside the confines of a month. The fifth holy day, Deepnight, is considered to be itself outside of time, and so is not counted among the tally of weekly days or months at all.

Holiday Descriptions

Note that the following list of holidays is merely the 5 universal days of celebration, honored by all the good peoples of the Empire and Trall-Goth. Other cultures, such as the desert kingdom of Târiq, undoubtedly have other days that they hold dear.

Deepnight This is the celebration of the new year, a time of renewal. As the land dies, so does the old season, and a new one is born into the ravages of the oncoming winter. This is a time of contemplation, and is not a night of wild revelry as is common in other worlds.

Imbolc: Imbolc marks the beginning of new hope. This is when the first newborn lambs are brought into the world, and, though the fury of winter still rages, its end is in sight.

Beltain: The festival of fire. This lusty celebration of the glory of life often brings with it the creation of NEW life, (wink wink nudge nudge). As the world completely awakens, the folk of Talanu spend this time outdoors in the fields and meadows.

Lughnasadh: This celebration of the coming harvest. This festival commemorates the marriage of earth and sky, and the blessings of nature.

Samhain The Day of the Dead. Upon this day, the old year passes away and people make ready for the coming of the new. Falling immediately before Deepnight, folk often honor ancestors and those who have passed on to the other side. On this night, when the world passes outside of time for a while, the walls between the seen and unseen are very thin, and spirits are said to roam the land.
