Summary
Ruler: Saedemas (HMC20);
Capitol: Noldostaran;
Major City: Donaris
Economy Caerbreddyn is a
mountainous kingdom, and is rich in precious stones, gold, and platinum. Many
mining towns dot the landscape. Agriculture is limited to terrace farming except
in the few sections of forest on the kingdom’s western edge. There is also a
growing "industry" of monster trapping, as the mountains and the Daggers
off the coast provide ample opportunity for exotic game hunting.
Geography
Caerbreddyn is
bordered to the north by the Deathwaste, to the west
by the Kingswood of Perelinn, and to the east and south
by the Sea of Storms. It also shares a border to the northwest with the desert
kingdom of Saelis.
People The folk of Caerbreddyn
are a very rugged and individualistic lot. The rough terrain of their kingdom
imposes more isolation on individual settlements. They tend to be more self-sufficient
than other towns in the Empire. That, combined with the hostile creatures that
populate their territory, means that the people of this kingdom are much more
suspicious of outsiders than is usual.
Major Cities
The capitol city of Noldostaran is an ecclesiastical mecca of sorts. The King,
Saedemas, is a high priest of Maeve. He has set
a standing order of religious tolerance within his kingdom, and his capitol
aptly reflects this. Major temples to all the gods, (some being the only temples
of their kind), can be found here. The priests who run the establishments are
cautioned to keep their religious differences to themselves, and for the most
part they comply. However, even under the watchful eye of the King and his Holy
Guards, this place is often a hotbed of political maneuvering.
The city of Donaris is seemingly out of place when one considers a stereotypical
citizen of Caerbreddyn. As described above, they tend to be suspicious of outsiders,
and very independent. Even in the capitol, where religious tolerance is the
order of the day, the people tend to keep to themselves and associate only with
those of similar faiths. Donaris, however, is an exception. This beautiful city
of marble and quartz is the home to the great Penderwydd College of Performing
Arts, the greatest bardic college on the continent. At times it seems as if
the entire city were itself the college’s campus. Here, the new and unexpected
are standard fare, and a visitor never knows just what might be going on.
